Cycology Lightweight Long Sleeve Jersey – $109.95

Need long sleeves in the summer to protect your arms from the sun?

The Cycology Lightweight Long Sleeve jersey offers protection from the sun or just a touch more warmth for a cool morning start. The long sleeves act as an excellent sun block, protecting skin from UV rays and preventing the need for regular sunscreen application. Constructed from lightweight high stretch fabric that delivers excellent breathability and sweat-wicking performance to keep you cool and comfortable.

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: A long-sleeve jersey for warm/hot weather probably seems like an oxymoron. But I’ve seen riders wearing "sun sleeves" (the equivalent of arm warmers but for UV protection) with short-sleeve jerseys. So for those who are UV-challenged, why not a long-sleeve jersey?

Because I already have Cycology's 8 Days kit, PEZ got the 8 Days Lightweight Long Sleeve Jersey. Unlike my 8 Days short sleeve jersey that's Race fit (and size XS), the Lightweight Long Sleeve Jersey is Cycology's Performance fit and size small (the smallest size in Performance fit. According to Cycology: "This is a close fitting jersey. If you are in doubt on sizing or prefer a slightly looser fit, it may be worth sizing up. We get more returns due to customers finding the jerseys smaller than they expect so that may be worth considering in your size selection."

Cycology kit is all about the fun graphics — all inspired by Sarina Tomchin, who along with her husband, Michael, created Cycology some 20 years ago

For me (5’8″, 130 pounds, ectomorph build), Cycology's Performance fit is what I would call comfortably form fitting. It's not "loose" by any means, but doesn't quite cling to you like a second skin as their Race fit (and my preference in jerseys is race fit) Back in my racing days (early/mid-90s), what Cycology calls performance fit would have been considered race fit. So I’m guessing it's a fit that would suit a wider range of riders.

Not "loose," but Performance fit is "looser" than Race fit

By definition, long-sleeves are going to be warmer than short-sleeves — even with lightweight, breathable fabric. I’ll be honest … I don't know that I would ride this jersey in temps much above the low/mid-70s(F) because I don't really worry about being out in the sun (a benefit of being of Filipino ethnic heritage). That said, it was 80-something (F) when my daughter took the pics of me wearing the jersey and I wasn't baking in it. YMMV. But if you need protection from the sun, it's an option worth considering instead of slathering on sunscreen (that will likely have to be re-applied) or dealing with sun sleeves (the fabric in Cycology's Lightweight Long-Sleeve Jerseys is SPF50).

Cycology also sent PEZ the matching 8 Days Sleeveless Baselayer ($39.95) — size small that fit like a second skin but without tight compression. I know the idea of a baselayer in warm/hot weather seems counterintuitive to a lot of riders, but a proper baselayer will help wick moisture away from your body and vent it through your jersey — keeping your drier (and by not being totally drenched in sweat, cooler).

To baselayer or not to baselayer … that is the question

And to be completely matchy-matchy, Cycology also sent PEZ a pair of 8 Days Aero Socks 9 ($24.95). These are different than "regular" socks in that the "foot" part is knit like most other cycling socks but the "leg" part is a smooth stretch material that's more #aero. NOTE: Cycology's socks are a "one size fits most" fit and fit my US size 9 feet well.

"Fast" socks

Happy feet!

It was 80-something (F) for this photoshoot and I was surprised at how "not hot" (as in not overheating) the Cycology Lightweight Long Sleeve Jersey was

Twisted Spoke CBD Releases New Plant-Based SupplementCordyceps mushroom extract capsules target improved athletic performance

Twisted Spoke CBD, a leading manufacturer of performance-oriented topical and consumable products in Colorado, announced today the release of its first non-hemp supplement, a purified cordyceps mushroom extract. Twisted Spoke's cordyceps supplement comes in vegan cellulose capsules that contain 200 mg of cordycepin, the cordyceps mushroom's active ingredient. This is different from other companies that market 200 mg of a mushroom extract, which may contain much less of the beneficial ingredient.

Twisted Spoke Cordyceps capsules will be available in a 30-count package (MSRP $39.99). Twisted Spoke products are sourced locally in Colorado, and their purity and potency are verified by independent third-party testing.

"We’ve built our brand on affordable, high-quality CBD products, but branching out into other plant-based performance supplements just made sense," said Wen Dolphin, a co-founder of Twisted Spoke CBD. "Cordyceps has the potential to make a big difference for endurance athletes. It's a game changer."

Cordyceps has been used for generations in Asia for vitality, male sexual performance, and general well-being. Users report increased energy, stamina, and endurance. The athletic performance potential of cordyceps came to light in 1993 after Chinese runners taking cordyceps broke the world records for 1500, 3000 and 10,000 meters. Cordyceps is thought to improve athletic performance by improving the body's ability to use oxygen and glucose, build strength, and reduce inflammation. Well-designed research studies with cyclists and runners show cordyceps improve endurance performance and power. In one study with trained athletes, just 3 weeks of supplementation significantly increased VO2 max and anaerobic threshold. VO2 max is a key indicator of endurance performance.

In addition to oxygen uptake, Cordyceps may enhance testosterone, a key hormone for muscle strength. Animal studies have consistently found that cordycepin, the active ingredient in Twisted Spoke's cordyceps supplement, stimulates testosterone production and inhibits its metabolic breakdown, increasing the level of testosterone in blood plasma.

"As a competitive cyclist, I’m always looking for ways to help athletes be better with plant-based products, so I’m super excited about our new cordyceps supplement," said Dolphin. "My dad and I will be using the Twisted Spoke cordyceps capsules as we train for the Leadville 100 this year."

Twisted Spoke uses the best available science to make the most effective products. Launching simultaneously with these cordyceps will be NANO CBD capsules available in Full Spectrum CBD, CBN and Isolate CBD. Compared to oil based formulas, these products mix with water and smaller particle sizes allow for faster absorption and a quicker onset of effects. Founded in 2020 by two cyclists, Twisted Spoke CBD manufactures a range of innovative, high-value CBD products designed for athletic performance, including tinctures, topical rubs, chamois cream, and nutritional supplements.

Trasformative Innovation to the Olympics. X23: The Game ChangerHP ITALY 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing. Pavilion 8 stand F008

"We didn't design a new bike, we designed the cyclist, each cyclist on his bike".Romolo Stanco.

X2_ is a constantly evolving concept of cutting-edge track bicycle born from disruptive ideas and the search for extreme performance, designed around the needs of the athlete, developed with innovative technologies and engineering processes and created for each cyclist using 3D printing and additive manufacturing for both the frame and the components in developing prototypes and in the final building.

X23 SWANIGAMI is the first true prototype of the X2_ project, the result of the collaboration between BIANCA Advanced Innovations, TOOT Racing, COMPMECH and 3DPROTOLAB laboratories of the University of Pavia, with the aim of taking track cycling to the next level.

The bike, following the guidelines outlined by the THEFALCON project – already a winner in world-class competitions – was conceived with a typical motorsport approach, combining research, design, innovative materials, aerodynamics and additive manufacturing technologies to offer unparalleled performance on track.

Analisi dei flussi aerodinamici del simbionte ciclista/bici

Romolo Stanco, founder of T°RED bikes and director of BIANCA Advanced Innovations, has for years been considered one of the leading designers of bikes and components with a high-performance content. Two-time winner of the "Best Track Bike Award" at NAHBS in the USA, he boasts experience in motorsport, applied research, laboratories and design in various fields. Considered by the press as

he is the Chief Technical Officer of TOOT Racing, and Team leader of the "Road to Olympics" project with the direction of the 3D modeling lab of the Argentine professional athlete and tester of the Factory Development Team Facundo Lezica, the direction of the engineering and 3D sector of prof. Gianluca Alaimo, the engineering supervision of prof. Ferdinando Auricchio and the management of the T°RED BIKES CEO Erica Marson. Technical synergies and skills with companies such as HP ITALY, AP Works, Litem have allowed a unique "disruptive" development in the performance cycling sector.

The search for the optimal balance between the athlete's comfort zone and aerodynamics is the absolute priority around which Romolo Stanco began working on X23 SWANIGAMI involving internationally renowned companies, so much so that the project was chosen as an emblematic example by ITIR – Institute for Transformative Innovation research.

Thanks to the adaptive design and the "digital twins" bicycle/cyclist simulation systems with 3D scans and modeling compared to simulations in the wind tunnel (virtual and physical), it is possible to control the complex and dynamic system of the athlete's body since the beginning of the design phase by conceiving the custom as a new standard.

In less than 24 hours it is possible to create a 1:1 scale prototype using HP Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing technologies allowing each athlete to see, "feel" and optimize every aspect of the "marginal gain". Sensations of real objects, tested on simulators or in wind tunnel have allowed the tester athletes to provide the TOOT RACING engineers and design team with their sensations to improve performance and the feeling with the bike.

Facundo Lezica – multi-medal Argentinian athlete, head of the 3D Laboratory and field tester – working on the X23 Swanigami prototype.

Using advanced 3D modeling, simulation and scanning techniques, the design team was able to optimize the athlete's position in order to develop a disruptive frame geometry for maximum efficiency and speed.

The result is a frame that is not only incredibly elegant and efficient, but also offers excellent handling, stiffness, comfort and responsiveness.

The possibility of building the frame prototypes and all the components and parts in 3D at the 3D PROTOLAB of the University of Pavia made it possible to simulate and test positions, aerodynamic efficiency in the wind tunnel, different geometries in order to combine 3D printed parts with machined or forged metal parts and composite material parts.

To ensure that each X23 is perfectly suited to the individual rider, the bike is manufactured using an advanced additive manufacturing technique. The ultimate X23 SWANIGAMI frameset will be constructed using an aerospace grade aluminum alloy (Scalmalloy® printed by APWorks) for its high strength to weight ratio, making it perfect to use in high performance cycling disciplines. Other parts will be printed in titanium or in steel like the incredible super-narrow handlebar Asheeta 3D.

3D printing allows for precise control over the final geometry and material properties of the bike, resulting in a bike optimized for each rider's specific needs.

Rendering of the X23 in pursuit version. In GRAY the parts 3D printed in Scalmalloy® in RED the parts forged in AlScaZir®, in carbon BLACK the parts composite (some 3D printed). The metal parts are welded with a proprietary process in the T°RED BIKES laboratories, some parts connected in structural bonding are foreseen.

TOOT RACING has been working on the optimization of three-dimensional models obtained through 3D scanning since 2016. The possibility of creating 3D models of each individual cyclist on the simulator allows you to design the geometry of the bike by balancing the relationship between:

The shapes of the X23 frame in the front triangle are designed around the search for an aerodynamic effect called "washout", a feature which deliberately reduces the distribution of the lift, therefore of the load, of the aerodynamic weight.

In many cases the focus is on optimizing the frontal area to reduce the frontal surface, while working on a dynamic 3D model allows the athlete's body to be "used" as a wing by directing the flow of air passing under his chest where best to relieve the air pressure.

"Lift" effect in cycling as in the new "foiling" boats of the America's cup?

The work of Romolo Stanco and the engineers of the University of Pavia also goes in this direction: "the true bodywork of the binomial bicycle/cyclist is the athlete: he is the engine and the "fairing" at the same time and therefore it must be designed as a technical part: it must perform at its best from a mechanical point of view and interact better with the components to optimize aerodynamics."

The strong sloping of the top tube has very strong motivations (patented) and finds references in the "hyperbikes" of Graeme Obree with his "old faithful" and the Hotta but also in Mike Burrows’ Lotus 108 for Chris Boardman and tin Pinarello Espada, in which the top tube was completely eliminated from the frame.

The X23 SWANIGAMI frame complies with the new UCI rules and will be registered with the UCI to participate with the Argentina national team in the World Championship in Glasgow, United Kingdom, next August and to obtain registration for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Some parts and components already used in the 2023 Nations Cup have already obtained Olympic approval.

X2_ concept track bike and the various "releases" of which X23 SWANIGAMI represents the first stage have the ambition to be an accessible and sustainable project, both for the use of materials and for techniques with a high level of environmental sustainability and recycling.

Romolo Stanco's team has also worked to contain costs in the design and development process in addition to production with the aim of being able to create high-performance bicycles that can also allow athletes and smaller federations to aspire to prestigious results.
